The Miracle Morning — Book Summary
សង្ខេបសៀវភៅ «ព្រឹកផ្លាស់ប្តូរជីវិត»
What is The Miracle Morning about?
Hal Elrod's The Miracle Morning asks why people who want a better life keep settling for an ordinary one, and argues that the answer begins with how they spend the first hour of the day. Elrod, who tells of hitting rock bottom after a car crash and again during a recession, proposes six daily practices called the Life S.A.V.E.R.S. (Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing), supported by a five-step plan for getting out of bed and a 30-day habit challenge in three ten-day phases. The summary also covers a six-minute version for busy days, ways to customize the routine, and a bonus method of asking people you know for honest feedback, while noting that most of the claims rest on the author's own experience.

A Big Promise Before the Story
Hal Elrod opens his book with a short note to the reader. He says that all people share at least one wish: to improve their lives and themselves. Yet, he writes, most people wake up each day and find that life stays much the same.
Elrod says the Miracle Morning is one of the most practical and effective methods he has ever come across for improving any area of life. It is a set of personal development practices done early in the morning. He stresses that it is a ritual to practice every day. Reading the book is not enough.
Elrod knows his promises are big. He says the method can help successful people reach a new level and help people in hard times turn their lives around, often quickly. He calls it a simple process that is "guaranteed" to change any area of life, all before 8:00 a.m. He adds that it has already produced measurable results for hundreds of thousands of people, himself included. These are Elrod's own claims, and the note names no study for them.
The Crash at Twenty
Elrod tells his own story first. On December 3rd, 1999, he was 20 years old. He was one of the top sales reps at his company and had a supportive family and good friends. Two hours earlier he had given a speech, and for the first time an audience had stood up to clap for him. At 11:32 p.m. he was driving south on Highway 99 at 70 miles per hour.
A full-size pickup truck, travelling at an estimated 80 miles per hour, hit his car head on. A second car then struck the driver's side. Elrod was knocked unconscious. He says the crash broke 11 of his bones and permanently damaged the front of his brain. Elrod says a drunk driver was at fault.
When firefighters cut him out of the wreck, Elrod says, his heart stopped and he stopped breathing. He calls himself clinically dead. Paramedics worked on him in a rescue helicopter, and after six minutes his heart started again. He spent six days in a coma and woke to the news that he might never walk again. He spent seven weeks in the hospital, learned to walk again, and then went home to his parents' care. His girlfriend ended their relationship while he was in the hospital.
Elrod says he stopped wishing the past were different. He chose to be grateful for what he had and to take full responsibility for rebuilding his life. He now calls the crash one of the best things that ever happened to him.
Comeback, Collapse and a New Routine
Elrod says he returned to his sales job in 2000, while still recovering from a serious car crash, and finished sixth among more than 60,000 sales reps at his company. He then began speaking at schools and later worked as a coach for business people. In 2005 he decided he had never given his best for a whole year. He set out to nearly double his best sales year and to write a book, and he says he worked every day. He reports reaching both goals. His book, Taking Life Head On, reached number 7 on Amazon's bestseller list in 2006.
Then the United States economy crashed. Elrod says his income was cut in half and his coaching clients could no longer pay him. He could not pay his bills and was $425,000 in debt. He says he had never felt so hopeless and depressed. Self-help books, seminars and even a coach did not help.
Finally he told a close friend, who advised him to start running. On a run he had the idea for a daily personal development routine. He says his life changed so fast that he called it his "Miracle Morning." Elrod then shared the routine with his coaching clients. Most said they were not morning people, but they agreed to try it for a week, and he says it changed the lives of almost all of them. His book about it came out in 2012, and by 2016, he says, it had been translated into 27 languages and was reaching readers in more than 70 countries.
Responsibility Is Not Blame
Elrod says he tells his story to offer evidence of what can be overcome. He believes that anything one person has overcome shows that it is possible for others too. He asks readers to take total responsibility for every part of their lives and to stop blaming others. In his view, the amount of responsibility a person accepts is exactly the amount of power that person has to change things.
Elrod separates two ideas that people often mix up. Blame decides who is at fault. Responsibility decides who is committed to making things better. His example is the car crash that nearly killed him at age 20. The drunk driver was at fault, he says, yet Elrod himself was responsible for improving his life. He argues that fault matters little. What matters is that people leave the past behind and start building the life they want today.
He adds that wherever a person is now is temporary. He calls the present a chance to learn and grow. He compares a life to a story: the bigger the challenges, the better the story. Elrod says his book is about helping readers become the person who can create the life they want. He also says that it will take work.
