John Carreyrou builds this account from interviews with more than 150 people, including more than 60 former Theranos employees, and from documents such as emails, agreements and legal testimony. Some dialogue comes from records; other conversations are reconstructed from participants’ memories. A few people appear under changed names to protect their identities. Elizabeth Holmes declined to participate in the book.
Read Evidence at Its Actual Strength
These differences matter when reading the story. A remembered conversation, a company accusation and an official inspection finding do not carry identical evidentiary weight. This account follows the 2018 edition through its 2018 epilogue. It describes the investigations and civil settlement known at that point, without importing later criminal proceedings into the author’s original ending.
