Same as Ever — Book Summary
សង្ខេបសៀវភៅ «រឿងដែលនៅតែដដែល»
What is Same as Ever about?
Many people ask what will change in the future, but this book asks what will never change. Morgan Housel argues that human habits such as greed, fear, overconfidence, short-term thinking and the pull of a good story stay the same while technology and events keep changing. Through short stories, from Warren Buffett and a candy bar to Hyman Minsky's idea that stability is destabilizing, the Donner Party, and the Red Queen race, he shows how to expect surprises, judge risk, and plan around what stays constant.

A Candy Bar and Time Travel
Morgan Housel opens with a story he heard over lunch from a man close to Warren Buffett, called Jim. (Jim is not his real name.) In late 2009, while the world economy was crippled, Jim and Buffett drove around Omaha, Nebraska. Jim asked how the economy could ever bounce back. Buffett asked what the best-selling candy bar was in 1962. Jim did not know. It was Snickers. And the best seller today? Snickers again. The talk ended there.
Housel says his book is a set of short stories about what never changes in a changing world. He asks readers to imagine traveling 500 years into the past or the future. Technology, medicine, politics and language would look strange. But people would still fall for greed and fear, feel jealousy, follow their group, act overconfident and shortsighted, and search for certainty that does not exist. A visitor would say, "Same as ever." Housel argues that these habits teach more than change does, because they show what to expect.
Plan Around What Stays the Same
Housel quotes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. People often ask him what will change in the next ten years, but almost never what will not change. Bezos says the second question matters more. Customers will always want low prices and fast shipping, so Amazon can invest heavily in them.
Housel uses the same idea. He has no clue what the stock market will do next year, but he is confident people will keep showing greed and fear. He cannot say who will win the next election, but he is sure loyalty to a group will shape how people think. He cannot say which businesses will lead, but leaders who let success go to their heads have always become lazy and lost their edge.
Housel then asks what would be true in every possible version of a life. Investor Naval Ravikant says he wants to be wealthy in 999 of 1,000 parallel universes, not only where he got lucky. Housel says the book looks for truths that hold in all of them.
